Root cause of the problem?

Wednesday February 18, 2009 04:47:56 PM, Aleem Faizee

The Mohalla Committee meeting organised as part of the week long communal harmony campaign in Malegaon finds the history as the root cause of the problems. The meeting addressed by prominent activists and journalists including Ram Puniyani and Hasan Kamal asserted more inter community dialogues are needed to ease out the tension.

The way people are actually living in Malegaon surprised the French student

Sarah, a French national and student of politics at Institute of Political Studies Lille, France (Institut d’ etudes politiques de Lille, France) had recently visited Malegaon for her research work on the Communal Riots in Malegaon. Malegaon has seen several communal riots in the past. But the October 2001 riot was the worst that the town had seen in its history. The intensity of the October conflict can be gauged from the remarks expressed by few political observers and analysts who after the Gujarat carnage in 2002 had said that whatever had happened in Malegaon in October 2001 was the rehearsal....Full Story

Malegaon, a town in India with more than 70% Muslim population has always been considered as a communally sensitive place. However, there is a place in Malegaon where a Mosque and a Mandir exist side by side with Muslims and Hindus, both living there in peace since last many years. Same is the case with the whole town. Except for the selected few who always try to create trouble, the whole town comprises the peace loving people . Still, the tag of being a communally sensitive place is attributed with the town...Full Story

Sare Jahan Se Accha

Hindustan Hamara

In 1905 more than 100 years from today, when Iqbal was a lecturer at the Government College, Lahore he was invited by his student Lala Hardayal to preside over a function. Instead of making a speech, Iqbal sang Sare Jahan Se Accha Hindustan Hamara in his style. Iqbal compiled this poem in praise of India and the poem preaches the communal harmony that had unfortunately started ceasing in India by that time. Each and every word in this poem depicts an Indian’s respect and love for the motherland and the values the Indian society inherited for long...Read Full

History, unanimously asserted Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mumbai Suresh Khopde, Activist Dr. Ram Puniyani and Columnist Hasan Kamal, is exploited by a section in the country to play the politics of hatred that result most of the time in communal conflicts. And the victims? The poor and downtrodden class, came the answer from the three, unanimously once again. The trio was in Malegaon for the two-day seminar held in the town as part of the week-long Communal Harmony campaign organized by Malegaon Municipal Corporation, National Foundation for Harmony and Setu Charitable Trust.

Renowned activist Dr. Ram Puniyani addressing the

Mohalla Committee meetimng in Malegaon

"Everyone knows Mehmood Ghaznavi as the man who had demolished the Somnath Temple. But how many of us know that en rout to Gujarat, the same Mehmood Ghaznavi had also razed the Jama Masjid of Multan while in a war with a Muslim ruler?", Dr. Ram Puniyani said attempting to draw his point. "We all know Rana Pratap Singh fought with Emperor Akbar at Haldighat. But how many of us know that when the two rival forces fought with each other, Rana Pratap had Hakim Khan Sur as his commander in chief and Raja Man Singh was leading the Akbar’s forces with Prince Salim as his deputy?”

Stating that the rulers during those time fought to gain power and wealth and not on the basis of their religions, Dr. Puniyani added, “It was the British who in order to give dimension to their divide-and-rule policy initially fiddled with the history and gave it a different colour that unfortunately is still prevailing in our country.”

Agreeing with Dr. Puniyani, renowned columnist Hasan Kamal said, “The fact is that the preachers of hatred in the guise of religion are very few in the country. But they appear dominated because they are united and otherwise secular and peace loving people are either scattered or not willing to expose the so called nationalists who are spitting venom in the country to fulfill their own interests.”

Interestingly when Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mumbai Suresh Khopde joined the discussion the next day, he reiterated the observations made by Dr. Puniyani and Hasan Kamal on the previous day.

"After reading the history in every Muslim we see a Mehmood Ghaznavi. Once such an opinion is created, a slightest provocation results in clashes”, observed ACP Khopde who had written a couple of tomes on communal riots and his research work on Bhiwandi riots has earned international applaud.

While presenting a model Mohalla Committee for Malegaon on the lines of the one he had practically implemented in Bhiwandi ACP Khopde agreed with the notion that more and more inter community dialogues are helpful in easing out the tensions. "Dialogues also help in clearing the misconceptions prevalent in one's mind", he added.

I agree with asksing. Indian muslim have to give the remaining country
peaceful years for development. Further if the 117 crore people expect
that the government must help, where will government. Even God [ allah /
christ / krishna ] helps people who helps themself. Instead of the
muslim intelligentia focus all its attentions on mistaking the
government collect their resources for the upliftment of the muslim
downtroddens. Generall attitude is to be arm chair experts. Can indian
muslim learn a bit from teresa to go across and help its own people. In
fact she is towering personality from whom hindu also need to learnt to
give back to soceity and asist the weakingling amont the family [ i
meant indian family to which every believe they belong to ]

Hi, I have been reading about the malegoan and mangalore in any minority
site u name on the net. Has anybody tried to understand the growing
insecurity among hindus. the only difference is that generally hindus do
not react violently but in a more season fashion. The resultant is
gujarat and karnataka. what is the root of cause of this ? Killing of
hindus in kashmir - islamic fundamentalism . pls show me ten site in the
net belonging to minority who condemn the violence of last few decades
including the latest amarnath. Violence in north east - Christian
fundamentalism. Discrimination all over the world against hindus and
hindu believe. Best example is banning of yoga among christians and
mulsim. No freedom of liberty to any religion in most islamic country.
When one fundamentalism is not questioned or accepted, the other grows
automatically. God sake donot classify me as hindu fundamentalist. i am
just presenting facts not my opinion for discussion hopefully getting
published.

A welcome step, but if this would have happened couple of decades when
kashmir muslim militants were killing hindus, it could have stopped
growth of hindu fundamentalism to large extent. Further this speech must
be targetted toward uneducate muslim youth who are very vulnerable
easily.

Good an inititative. however i hope all appreciate that india cannot
support 117 crore people. It is the people who has to help themself. I
would like to quote the rain in mumbai july 2005. Relief was given by
citizen [ no community please ] to the people who were stuck. I still
remember when i was walking back to chembur every shop offered all the
people who are working with water, cool drink, food, biscuits without
any cost even if it was offered by the flood victims. So poeple to
people helping is more important. pls encourage in the site that well
off brother could help other. I do this in my personal capacity. I ask
poeple to take loan for professional education and i pay the interest to
the bank for the four to five year [completion of studies ] After
completion, the person has to pay the captial back to the bank. Start
discussion forum where people can seek medical assistance and well off
surfer could pay them.
