The Economy is booming, the Sensex is soaring and we Indians are riding high as the money is pouring in like never before. But even this is failing in satisfying our thrust for earning the extra money and we are now trying to work 24x7 to earn some additional riches. But have we ever considered what is at stake in the run for this extra cash? Have we ever considered that our kids back home impatiently wait for the evening when they could share their grievances with us?

A look over our daily hectic schedule reveals an exactly opposite and annoying scenario. Mohd Shafi says “I could meet my children just once in a week”, and then reasons, “I reside at Mumbra and for my work at Byculla, I start at five in the morning while my children are still in their beds. By the time I return home late in the evening they have already gone to sleep. So it is only on Sundays when we meet each other.”

Ironically, he is not an exception; in fact most kids today are waiting in vain to meet their parents. And because of the 24x7 culture that is fast spreading in our life, even one day off, normally a Sunday and the day kids have always eagerly waited, has sadly taken off from our weekly schedule.

“We live in the same house, yet my 14-year-old daughter sent an email requesting an appointment as she felt it was the only way she could meet me.”

“More ironic is the fact, not only the children but the husband and wife duo is also not been able to spend enough time with each other because of the heavy workload”, observes Dr. Chetan Gosalia, a psychiatrist. “This is bound to affect badly not only the children but the married life as well”, he cautions.

Interestingly even the educationalists are unanimous on this that sending the kids to boarding schools at early age is wrong since they need the attention of their parents in early age. Bhavarlal Jain, founder of the Anubhuti Residential School fully agrees with the notion. He says, “Till at least thirteen years of their age, the children should accompany their parents because this is the age when the children need their parents the most.”

However despite all these drawbacks, the situation is becoming more and more common. And to what extent? Just look at what Pepsi CEO Indra Nooyi has said in a recent interview to The Economic Times. She has admitted, “We live in the same house, yet my 14-year-old daughter sent an email requesting an appointment as she felt it was the only way she could meet me.” However, at the same time, she seems worried over the situation as she has immediately added, “The incidence has shaken me.” But are we worried? It doesn’t seem so. Nashik Times
