SDPI flays raids in its offices

Two persons held, bombs seized from burial ground

Kozhikode: Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) the rechristened political wing of NDF, today alleged there was a 'hidden' agenda, in the present raids being conducted on the offices of SDPI and the houses of its activists.

Speaking to mediapersons here, E Aboobacker, National President, SDPI claimed that SDPI has become the hope of the marginalised section. The party was able to establish SDPI state committees in 11 states in the last one year, he said.

In the wake of the chopping off the hand of Muvattupuzha college lecturer, allegedly by Popular Front of India (PFI) activists, police had carried out state-wide raids on the SDPI and PFI offices.

Meanwhile, Congress too has joined the people who are criticising the police raids on PFI and SDPI offices.

Addressing a party meeting held against fundamentalism, Opposition leader Oommen Chandy said the government was holding the entire Muslim community responsible for extremism. “There is no revenge in Islam. The government has stooped to extremist organisation the level of demeaning that community over the attack on the lecturer,” said Chandy.
