President for strong school education system

Saturday, July 24, 2010 04:50:02 PM, Agencies

Karnal (Haryana): Observing that youths can play a vital role in making India one of the largest economics and the most influential nations, President Pratibha Patil today said there was a need for strong school education system.

"Stronger the foundations of school education, the greater the possibilities of progress...Our country stands at the threshold of becoming one of the largest economies as well as one of the most influential countries in the world...it is the youth, who will play a critical role in taking India to its promised destiny," Patil said at a function to celebrate the golden jubilee founder's day of Sainik School Kunjpura here, about 140 km from Delhi.

Emphasising on the role of schools in nation's progress, she said, "Schools are the basic units of an educational system. Here, children spend the formative years of their life. It is here, that the process of imparting knowledge begins, and opportunity is given to children to acquire skills and values, that will help them in life's journey, and in fulfilling responsibilities towards families, society and the nation".

"What one learns in school, leaves a lasting impression on ones mind. Further, the development of students at higher levels of education depends on the knowledge base and the value system acquired in school", she added.

Stating that India stands at the threshold of becoming one of the largest economies and one of the most influential countries in the world, she said, "As the future generation, it is you - the youth, who will play a critical role in taking India to its promised destiny. You must work hard and honestly, where ever you are and whatever work you are doing. By working selflessly and always keeping the interest of the country in mind, you will be an asset to the nation".

"I believe that the education system needs to strengthen adherence to secularism, democracy, inclusiveness and pluralism. These are the great values enshrined in our Constitution and traditionally developed by our civilization. These give strength and sustenance not only to our diverse multi-cultural, multi-religious and multi-lingual society, but also to our country", she said.
