Parliament's Monsoon Session to begin on stormy note Monday

Monday, July 26, 2010 08:05:25 AM, ANI

New Delhi: Parliament's Monsoon Session will commence on Monday and is likely to be stormy with the combined Opposition attacking the UPA Government on issues such as the price rise, the recently held Indo-Pakistan talks in Islamabad and others.

The Opposition is expected to press for an Adjournment Motion on price rise issue in the morning or on Tuesday.

The illegal mining issue in Karnataka, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir are among the other main issues likely to be raised during the session.

The Bhopal Gas tragedy is also expected to generate heat during the month-long session, with the BJP planning to seek a discussion under a rule that entails voting.

The economic blockade in Manipur, the delay in the preparations for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, the Ranganath Mishra Commission report and Gorkhaland issues will also come up during the session.

With the government in no mood to accept the opposition demand, a confrontation is expected from the word go.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on Sunday said there would not be any disruption if the government heeded to their demand.

Swaraj alleged that the government had tried to break the opposition unity by its moves like CBI filing charge sheet against former Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah, but failed.

Accusing the government of misusing CBI, Swaraj alleged that many opposition parties were in "difficulty" due to this. "This is government's ploy to break opposition unity", she said.

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to face the Opposition's ire on the spate of railway accidents.
