Patna: Despite cross voting by some legislators of BJP and RJD and the presence of an Independent candidate in the contest, RJD-supported LJP supremo Ram Vilas Paswan, Ram Kripal Yadav (RJD), Upendra Kushwaha and Ram Chandra Prasad Singh (both JD(U)) and BJP candidate Rajeev Pratap Rudy were elected to five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar today.
Secretary of Bihar Assembly-cum-Returning Officer Surendra Prasad Sharma here said altogether 223 MLAs voted for election to five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar, while the vote of BSP MLA Sita Sundrai Devi was declared invalid, leaving only 222 valid votes.
''RJD-supported LJP supremo Ram Vilas Paswan was elected to Rajya Sabha securing 39 votes, while RJD candidate Ram Kripal Yadav, who garnered 38 votes, was also elected,'' Sharma further said.
BJP candidate Rajeev Pratap Rudy was also elected and he notched up 47 votes, he added.
