One killed, 11 hurt in Mumbai stampede

Monday, March 08, 2010 09:50:18 AM, IANS

Mumbai: One person was killed and at least 11 injured Monday morning in a stampede that broke out during a police recruitment drive at Kalina in north west Mumbai, police said.

Over 10,000 candidates had gathered for the recruitment drive.

When the gate was opened, all the candidates rushed in, resulting in the stampede.

The police recruitment drive for 3,200 constable posts opened Monday at five centres across Mumbai. A couple of hours after the incident, order was restored and the recruitment process resumed at the centre.
