'Investigating Agencies are biased against Muslims'
Wednesday, May 12, 2010 09:37:55 PM, Agencies
Mumbai: The Jamiat-ul-Ulema-E-Hind, hailing the court verdict dismissing charges against Fahim Ansari and Sabahuddin Ahmed in the 26/11 trial, on Tuesday said it was a matter of concern that investigating agencies were often prejudiced against Muslim youth in terror attack probes.
Thane MLC Jitendra Avhad, who addressed the conference where Jamiat-ul-Ulema-E-Hind made this observation, said terror should not be linked to any religion. Addressing a conference organised by the Urdu Patrakar Sangh at Press Club in Azad Maidan, Jamiat-ul-Ulema-E-Hind spokesperson Maulana Gulzar Azmi alleged that investigating agencies targeted innocent Muslim youths after any terror attack.
"I can assure people that not a single Muslim in this country is a traitor. Kasab has been found guilty of killing so many people and should be punished in accordance with the law. We have no complaints against that but our only grievance is harassment of innocent Muslim youth," said Azmi.
Avhad agreed with Azmi's views and said terror had no religion. "We should give up the habit of branding terror activities as Hindu terror or Muslim terror. Terror has no religion and the government should ensure members of such organisations are punished for their activities irrespective of caste or religion."
Brigadier Sudhir Sawant, a former army officer and one of the speakers at the event, said, "I worked with the Military Intelligence wing of the army in Kashmir and one thing we learnt is terrorism cannot be fought with bullets.
If we can win the hearts and minds, the problem can be neutralised. We also have to neutralise problems like money laundering, narcotics trade, arms dealing and organised crime. Many of these support terrorism and enjoy patronage of political elements. We have to fight it to curb terror."
