New Delhi: The stage is all set for the three-day International Conference entitled “Towards Knowledge, Development and Peace: Outlining Road Map for Future”, which would be heralding the start of a year-long Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Institute of Objective Studies, (IOS), here from April 15.

The inaugural session which is scheduled from 4 pm to 7 pm on April 15 will be chaired by Justice A.M. Ahmadi, the former Chief Justice of Supreme Court of India. The conference would be inaugurated by Dr. Veerappa Moily, Union Minister of Law & Justice. Prof. A. R. Momin, Head Department of Sociology & Anthropology, University of Bombay will deliver Keynote address. Prof. (Dr.) Vinaysheel Gautam, Founding Director IIM (K) and Prof. & First Head of Management Studies IIT (Delhi) will be the guest speaker while Mr. Saiyyid Hamid, Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, will welcome the guests.

The Guests of Honour at the inaugural function would be Mrs. (Dr.) D. Purandeswari, Union Minister of State for HRD; Mrs. Sheila Dixit, Chief Minister of Delhi; Dr. Adel Al Falah, Under Secretary, Ministry of Auqaf & Islamic Affairs, Kuwait; Dr. Ahmad Totonji, Vice President, International Institute of Islamic Thought, USA; and Dr. Abdur Rahman Bin Aqeel, Secretary General, International Islamic Charitable Organisation, (IICO), Kuwait.

Dr. Mohammad Manzoor Alam, chairman IOS, will speak a few words at the function while Prof. Z. M. Khan, Secretary General IOS, will give an introduction of IOS to the guests.

The other main speakers who will share their views during the three-day International conference include: Dr. A.R. Kidwai, Former Governor of Bihar and Haryana; Prof. Manzoor Ahmed, Former VC Ambedkar University, Agra; Prof. Kamal Hassan, Former VC International Islamic University, Malaysia; Prof. Akhter Siddiqui, Chairperson National Council for Teacher Education, (NCTE), New Delhi; Prof. Faizan Mustafa, VC National Law University, Bhuneshwar; Dr. Samir Q. Fakhro, Rector Arab Open University, Bahrain; Swamy Agniwesh, Founder Chairperson of Bandhua Mukti Morcha; Dr. Abusaleh Shariff, Chief Economist, NCAER, New Delhi; Prof. Tahir Baig; Prof. M.H. Qureshi, Centre for the Study of Regional Development, JNU Delhi; Dr. Qamar Ahsan, Former VC Maulana Mazharul Haq University, Patna; and many others.

The Ulama who will put forth their views are: Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadvi, President All India Muslim Personal Law Board; Maulana Saeedur Rahman Nadvi, Chief Editor Al-Baas Al-Islami, Lucknow; Maulana Abdullah Mughaisi, President All India Milli Council; Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Omari, Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Hind; Maulana Tauqeer Raza Braeillvi, President All India Ittihad Millat Council; Maulana Mufti Arshad Ali Baqvi, Rector Sabeelus Salam Arabic College; Maulana Syed Wali Rahmani, Naib Amir-e-Shariat Bihar, Orrisa, Jharkhand; Maulana Dr. Syed Kalbe Sadiq, Vice President All India Muslim Personal Law Board; Maulana Abubakar Ahmad Musleyar, Chief Markazussaqafa Al Sunnia, Kerala; and Maulana Abdul Wahab Khilji, President Indian Islahi Movement.

Meanwhile, IOS reports, journals, souvenir and books will be released on the occasion. A number of awardees will also be honoured on the occasion.

1. ‘Prospects for Islamic Venture Capital Fund (IVCF) in Indian Economy on May 14-15, 2011 at Parliament House Annexe, New Delhi; 2. ‘Interest-free Institutional Mechanism (Banking, Finance and Insurance) for promoting Investment’ on June 3-5, 2011 at University of Kashmir, Srinagar; 3. ‘Indo-ASEAN Trade and Investment’ On July 8-10, 2011 at New Delhi; 4. ‘Global Trends of Education: Review and Options’ on September 16-18, 2011 at Patna (Bihar); 5. ‘Power of Media in a Globalising World’ on October 14-16, 2011 at Bangalore (Karnataka); 6. ‘Judiciary, Ethics and Delivery System’ on Oct. 29-30, 2011 at Bhubaneswar (Orissa); 7. ‘Good Governance in a Globalising World’ on November 18-20, 2011 at Kolkata (West Bengal); 8. ‘Islamic Culture and Art’ on Nov. 25-27, 2011 at Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh); 9. ‘Challenges Before Youth in Contemporary World’ on December 9-11, 2011 at Chennai (Tamil Nadu); 10. ‘Empowering Women: Paradigm, Sources and Methodologies (In the light of Maqasid-e-Shariah) on January 6-8, 2012 at Calicut (Kerala); 11. ‘Peace and Progress: Role of Religions’ on February 10-12, 2012 at Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh (UP); 12. ‘Worldview of Development: Challenges and Alternative Paradigm’ on March 10-12, 2012 at Pune (Maharashtra); and 13. Concluding conference on ‘Minority Identities and Rights: Challenges and Prospects in an Unfolding Global Scenario’ on April 14-16, 2012 at New Delhi

Meanwhile, the reports & publications which are to be released on the occasion include: a) IOS 25-years Report; b) Important publications;

c) Special numbers of IOS journals and magazines and d) Souvenir

A film on the activities and programmes taken up by the IOS during last 25- years would also be released on the occasion. An exhibition to portray the journey of IOS and art, calligraphy, paintings, books, and manuscripts (makhtutat) shall be organised. An essay competition for college as well as Madaris level (up to the age of 40 years) under the programme for youth will be organised on the occasion.

While a Certificate of Appreciation will be awarded to selected persons (Muslims and non-Muslims) at Delhi and other places where IOS Silver Jubilee celebrations programmes are being organised in recognition of their extraordinary services in different spheres of social, educational and welfare of the minorities and other underprivileged sections of the Indian society.
