AP Govt to extend validity period for Muslim reservation

Hyderabad: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today assured a delegation of Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind, Andhra Pradesh, that urgent measures were being taken for extending the duration of four per cent reservations for Muslims in the state.

The delegation, led by Jamiat's state unit President Moulana Hafiz Shabbir Ahmed, told the Chief Minister that the duration for which reservations are valid will expire on May 31, which was causing anxiety among Muslims, the organisation said in a press statement here.

Delegation pointed out that though the Chief Minister had already assured that period of the reservations for all categories was being extended, certain `vested interests', were engaged in false propaganda -- particularly during the election campaign in Kadapah district -- that reservations for Muslims would not get an extension.

The Chief Minister assured the delegation that matter was under active consideration, according to the statement.
