Malegaon:
The Malegaon Municipal Corporation administration is ready to hold
the Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections to be held today at 11:00
a.m. in the MMC meeting hall.
"As per the directives received from
Divisional Commissioner Jayant Gaikwad, we are fully ready to hold
the Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections today at the scheduled time",
Malegaon City Secretary Heemchand Sonawane said while talking to
ummid.com.
The newly elected councilors of the
80-member Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) will vote first to
elect the Mayor and after a gap of half an hour to elect the
Deputy Mayor. They will elect their preferred candidates by
raising hands, he said.
Earlier, both the Congress Party and
the Teesra Mahaz that formed post-poll alliance to rule the civic
body for the next five years, issued whips to their party
councilors to vote for Congress Mayoral candidate Tahira Shaikh
Rasheed and Teesra Mahaz Deputy Mayor candidate Jameel Bashir.
Likewise, Nationalist Congress Party
(NCP) and its allies also issued party whips to their councilors.
Elections for the Malegaon
Corporation were held on April 15, 2012. Though no party could win
enough seats to elect a mayor on its own, Congress had emerged as
the single largest party with 25 councilors. The Teesra Mahaz cam
second winning 19 councilors. Both formed an alliance later on.
