CBI questions legislator in Shehla Masood murder

Bhopal: The CBI probe into Madhya Pradesh RTI activist Shehla Masood's murder has hinted at arrested woman architect Zahida Parvez being the brain behind the killing as she was jealous of Masood's alleged friendship with a legislator, sources said Sunday.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths who recovered four personal diaries written by Zahida Parvez, 35, between 2009 and 2012, claimed that she was "obsessed" with Bharatiya Janata Party's Bhopal legislator Dhruv Narayan Singh.

According to sources, Zahida Parvez, a mother of two, wrote in a diary that she would either commit suicide or kill Shehla Masood, whose alleged proximity to the legislator did not go down well with her.

Sources said investigators had found several porn CDs and a hidden camera from the office of Zahida Parvez. Her husband Asad Parvez owns petrol pumps in Bhopal.

Sources said Zahida Parvez used her husband's employees to keep an eye on the legislator.

It was during this surveillance that Zahida Parvez came to know that Dhruv Narayan Singh used to visit Shehla Masood's home.

Shehla Masood, 32, was shot dead in front of her house here Aug 16 last year. The CBI took over the case three weeks after the murder.

Zahida Parvez, her friend Saba Farooqui and Shaqib, an alleged criminal who arranged the contract killers for murdering Shehla Masood, are being questioned by the CBI.

Sources said Saba Farooqui helped Zahida Parvez get "close" to the legislator.

The legislator and his close aide Sanjay Gupta, a builder, were questioned by the CBI Saturday.

The Bhopal legislator was chairman of the Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC) till May last year.

The probe agency found that Zahida Parvez used to get several contracts from the MPSTDC because of her good terms with the legislator.

Sources said investigators were also looking into leads that the legislator helped her get Rs.1.5 crore to establish her business.

According to the probe agency, Zahida Parvez, with the help of Shaqib, contacted contract killers Irfan Ali and Salim Olanga of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh to murder Shehla Masood. Ali was arrested in Kanpur. Olanga is dead.

The CBI Saturday recovered from a vehicle showroom here a car which was exchanged two weeks back by Zahida Parvez to allegedly give money to the suspected contract killers. The car is registered in the name of her husband.
