Bengal clears school upgradation, teacher appointments

Kolkata: The West Bengal cabinet Monday cleared for upgradation 999 high schools to higher secondary level along with the appointment of 3,996 assistant teachers on a permanent basis, according to Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee.

"The cabinet has cleared the proposal for upgrading 999 high schools under the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education to higher secondary level. SOme 3,996 assistant teachers will also be appointed on a permanent basis," Chatterjee told mediapersons after the meeting.

"The upgradation of the schools will be done in a phased manner with 500 schools under the first stage to be completed by the end of 2012-13 and the rest 499 in the last phase to be done by the end of 2013-14," Chatterjee added.

The government will also create employment opprutnities in the rural areas of the state under the 'Gramin Karma Vikas Yojna' which is to be started soon.
