CBI gets list of Mujibur Rahman's killers

New Delhi:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has received a list of
six Bangladeshis suspected to have killed Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,
who had mentored the country's freedom movement, in 1975, the Lok
Sabha was informed Tuesday.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Jitendra Singh said in a
written answer that the Interpol wing of the CBI received a list
of six wanted criminals suspected to be Rahman's killers.
"Appropriate action, including issuing look out circulars, against
these six persons was taken," said the minister.
Law enforcement agencies maintained a strict vigil on the
activities of foreigners, including Bangladeshi nationals, he
said.
Rahman, Bangladesh's first president, was assassinated along with
many of his family members Aug 15, 1975 by some officers of the
Bangladeshi armed forces.
Twelve former Bangladesh Army officers were found guilty. Five of
them were executed in Dhaka January 2010 but the rest are
absconding.
Jitendra Singh said that the power to deport a foreign national
under the Foreigners Act, 1946 had been delegated to state
governments.
A revised procedure for detection and deportation of illegal
Bangladeshi immigrants was communicated to states and union
territories in November 2009 and was partially modified in
February 2011.
"The procedure includes sending back then and there, the illegal
immigrants who are intercepted on the border while entering India
unauthorisedly," said the minister.
"Instances of violation of the law and involvement in illegal
activities by some Bangladeshi have been reported," he added.
