Bengal teacher who dared ex-legislator granted bail

College professor Debjani Dey, accused of misbehaving with former
Trinamool Congress legislator Arabul Islam, was Thursday granted
bail after she surrendered before a West Bengal court.
Dey and nine other teachers of the college had earlier brought
assault charges against Islam who was granted bail April 30.
"Islam had made baseless complaint against my client and the court
of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Baruipur (South 24
Parganas) granted her bail on a personal bond of Rs.1,000," said
Dey's counsel.
The charge against the teacher was brought after she had filed a
complaint against Islam of assaulting her.
In her complaint, Dey had alleged that she sustained an injury on
her chin when Islam, president of the college governing body,
barged into the staff room with some outsiders, abused her and
then threw the jug full of water at her.
Islam had denied the allegations but had to seek bail which was
granted by the court April 30.
Earlier Islam's counsel had threatened to sue Dey for defamation
as she had used the word "hoodlum" to describe the ex-legislator,
in her complaint.
