New Delhi: In order to
recover his business losses, a 43-year-old software engineer stole
jewellery worth Rs.3 lakh from his neighbours' flat but landed in
the police net, police said Friday.
Debashish Dutta, a resident of Shyam Vihar Phase-II in west
Delhi's Dwarka, was arrested Thursday for stealing jewellery from
Shikha Paul's flat.
Paul informed the police that she resides at Vizag in Andhra
Pradesh with her husband. In October 2011, she had come to Delhi
for a short stay.
"While returning to Vizag, she locked her flat and handed over the
keys to her relative Dutta. On May 4, when she again visited at
her Delhi flat, she found it ransacked, with jewellery items
stolen. She raised suspicions over her relative Debashish and maid
Dharmwati," said Anil Kumar Ojha, Additional Commissioner of
Police.
During interrogation, Dutta, a software engineer by profession,
revealed that he was running a software company at Kakrola.
"Last year, the business sunk and he incurred a huge loss and was
shattered economically. To compensate the loss, he stole the gold
jewellery. After stealing jewellery, he pawned the same with
Muthoot Gold finance company and took a loan of Rs. 1,30,000,"
added Ojha.
