New Delhi: The central
government Thursday denied media reports that Fasih Mehmood, an
Indian engineer working in Saudi Arabia, was in its custody.
"The media reports are wrong... he is not in the custody of Indian
intelligence agencies... the police of Delhi and Karnataka want
the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) to approach the Interpol
to locate him," Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram told reporters
here.
He said Mehmood could be in Saudi Arabia.
The Supreme Court had Tuesday issued notice to the Ministry of
Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs regarding the
disappearance of Mehmood.
He was allegedly picked up by the members of the National
Investigative Agency on May 13 and is missing ever since.
Mehmood's wife, Nikhat Parveen, had approached the apex court.
Media reports said Mehmood was deported to India on alleged terror
charges but he never reached India.
