Government launches cheap drugs campaign

New Delhi: The government has launched a country-wide campaign to make quality generic drugs available at affordable prices.

The 'Jan Aushadhi Campaign' has been initiated by the Department of Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with state governments by opening of 'Jan Aushadhi' generic drug stores in government hospitals, health ministry officials said Wednesday.

A total of 154 'Jan Aushadhi' stores have been opened till March 31, 2013, in 12 states and union territories: Punjab, Haryana, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh, the officials said.
