BJP gave away 6 lakh hectares Chhattisgarh farmland: Congress
Saturday August 10, 2013 9:40 PM, IANS

Chhattisgarh's opposition Congress Saturday alleged that the BJP government has handed over six lakh hectares of farmland to industries in recent years.

"Chhattisgarh has been pushed to poverty and backwardness during the BJP regime," Congress state chief and Union Minister of State for Agriculture Charandas Mahant said at a public meeting here.

He alleged that the BJP, which is ruling the state since December 2003, has so far handed over six lakh hectares of land to industrial houses even though industries have not been set up.

Assembly polls will be held in Chhattisgarh by November and the faction-ridden Congress has regrouped in the mineral-rich state in recent weeks to prevent the BJP from scoring a hat-trick.
