Muslims should reconsider attitude towards Modi government: IICC chief

The head of an Islamic cultural centre here Friday called upon the Muslims to reconsider their attitude towards the Narendra Modi government and come forward to help in nation-building and resolve minority-related issues.

Sirajuddin Qureshi, president of the India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC), in his address to community leaders on the occasion of the country's 68th Independence Day, referred to his recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a statement from the IICC said.

"Muslims have started rethinking about their attitude towards the NDA government led by Prime Minister Modi. This was clearly indicated by Qureshi in his speech at the function," the statement said.

"The tricolour was hoisted at the IICC complex in a sober but graceful function," the statement said.

Qureshi said Muslims should participate in nation-building and resolve minority-related issues. "This would not only help the government but also the Muslim community", he added.

Referring to his meeting with Modi, Qureshi said the prime minister "seems to be serious in resolving peoples' issues of all communities. We as the citizens of the country should respond positively towards the government".

The Independence Day function at IICC was attended by the community elite, scholars, social activists and philanthropists, the statement said
