Mumbai: Saiyid Hamid, one of the tallest figures among Muslims in India and Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard and former Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is seriously ill and is hospitalized, family sources said.

The 94-year-old educationist Saiyid Hamid, a retired IAS officer, was also one of the members of the high level committee headed by Justice Rajendra Sacchar which was appointed by the Prime Minister in 2005.
After retiring from a long and distinguished career in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), he was appointed Vice Chancellor of his alma mater Aligarh Muslim University.
He later succeeded Hakeem Abdul Hameed, Founder of Hamdard Dawakhana (now Hamdard (Wakf) Laboratories) as the Chancellor of Hamdard University in Delhi.
He was also appointed by Hakeem sahib as Secretary of Hamdard Education Society to look after Hamdard Public School and Hamdard Study Circle.
He is a winner of several national level awards, including Sanskriti Award for literature, Urdu Academy Delhi award, Hindi Academy Delhi award and National fellowship award by Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
He has many books to his credit, two novels, three full length plays and many short story books for neo-literates.
