Manama: There has been an unprecedented response for the online registration of the international Qur'an competition, which will be conducted in Bahrain.
The number of contestants, who registered online, stood at 101,554 over the last two months, according to the organizers.
Contestants are registering their names for the event through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, said Sheikh Abdullah Al-Amri, director of the department for Qur'an affairs at Bahrain's Ministry of Justice.
He also said that 97 percent of them are men.
The maximum age of contestants has been raised to 40 instead of 25. The last date for registration for the largest online Qur'an competition is September 5, he said.
According to Al-Amri, the largest number of contestants registered for the 'Munjamul Qura Prize' competition is from Saudi Arabia, followed by other Gulf states and Egypt.
