Four toppers in ICSE class 10 exam, girls outshine boys

Girls have performed better than boys in the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) examination for Class 10, which this year has four toppers securing 98.6 percent apiece, an official said Wednesday.

The ICSE results were declared Wednesday by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE).

The overall pass percentage stands at 98.82 percent while the pass percentage in Delhi National Capital Region was higher at 99.65 percent.

"In Delhi NCR, girls have a pass percentage of 99.83 percent, while boys have a pass percentage of 99.50 percent," CISCE secretary Gerry Arathoon said at a press conference here.

"Overall, girls have performed well with a pass percentage of 98.79 and boys at 97.88 percent respectively," Arathoon said.

Though girls performed better than boys, among the four toppers, three are boys.

Shreyas Sudhaman from Kumaran Public School, Bangalore; Apoorva Narayanswamy from St. Paul's English School, Bangalore; Siddhartha Shankar Kahali from Little Flower School, Jamshedpur and Rishabh Raj from St. Paul's School, Rourkela are the highest scorers all over India.

Riya Singh of Holy Angels School, Shahababad, and Sajal Gupta of St. Paul's School, Ghaziabad, who secured 97.8 percent marks, were the toppers in Delhi NCR, he said.

Region-wise, students from south India followed by the west performed well with a pass percentage of 99.59 and 99.41 percent respectively.

The northern part of the country had the highest unsuccessful percentage with 2.51 followed by the east with 1.93 percent.

Meanwhile, the CISCE website crashed after the results were declared.

Earlier too, when the ISC Class 12 results were declared, the website had crashed with many students being unable to check their results.

In total, 149,087 students appeared for the examinations this year. There are 1,841 schools affiliated to the board. In Delhi NCR, 2,608 students took the examination.
