Aizawl: A government school teacher was arrested in Mizoram on charges of raping and sexually abusing 32 students, police said here Friday.
"Saichal village (Champhai district in eastern Mizoram) primary school teacher Lalhmingmawia, 30, was arrested Friday after first information reports were lodged with the police by parents of two victims," a police official said.
The official said that subsequent inquiry and interrogation of the teacher revealed that he had either molested or raped 30 more girl students in the past three years in the same school.
The victims are aged between 8 and 12 years and they did not report the abuse out of fear as the teacher had threatened them with dire consequences.
The teacher has been charged under the concerned sections of both the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
