Agra: Minutes after permission to his Agra rally scheduled to be held on March 29 was cancelled, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi accused the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) of having a nexus with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).
Claiming that there is a secret understanding between the two parties, Asaduddin Owaisi said, "My stand is justified. Samajwadi Party is functioning at the instructions of BJP and it has been proved now."
“They understand that I will expose them. Their plan is simple - allow BJP and its affiliates to hold programmes creating a fear psychosis among Muslims and then project SP as messiah of Muslims,” Owaisi who is in Jaipur to attend All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) national executive meet said while talking to the Indian Express.
Owaisi was responding to the local administration's decision to withdrawa permission for his Agra rally.
Contradictory reasons are cited by the district authorities for the decision which has raked a political storm.
One version said that the district administration of Agra took the decision on the basis of intelligence reports which suggested this could lead to trouble after Hindutva organisations had openly declared they would not allow Owaisi to hold his meeting at the scheduled Kothi Meena Bazar ground.
The other cited the ongoing board examination as the reason for cancellation of Owaisi's rally.
Asaduddin Owaisi, who has been awarded 'Model MP Award' by the Indian Parliamen, was two weeks ago denied permission to hold rally in Allahabad. The Uttar Pradesh administration has also barred him earlier from holding rallies in Azamgarh and other parts of the state.
Owaisi, who heads All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) - a Hyderabad based party with a strong local base, is planning to expand its wings to Uttar Pradesh. He has already announced fielding party candidates in the 2017 state elections.
The MIM had recently contested the Maharashtra assembly elections and won two seats.
Interestingly, ahead of the Maharashtra elections too, permissions for Owaisi's rallies were cancelled one after the other. The bans however had a counter effect and instead of stopping and degrading Asaduddin Owaisi, his popularity increased manifold across the country.
