Faridbad: Amid debate led by Prime Minister Modi over "torture and sufferings of Muslim women because of misuse of Triple Talaq", in two separate incidents a 22-year-old woman was allegedly burnt to death and another was threatened with dire consequences by her husband and in-laws for dowry in Uttar Pradesh.
According to PTI, Faridabad police said the 22-year-old woman's father in his complaint said his son-in-law informed him over phone on Fridaythat his daughter had burnt herself.
He alleged that his daughter's husband and in-laws were pressuring her for dowry soon after her marriage, police said.
The woman succumbed to her injuries last night at a hospital here, they said, adding the matter is being investigated. The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the IPC, police said.
In another incident of similiar kind, a woman in Gaunchi village has alleged that her husband and in-laws have threatened her with dire consequences if she failed to fulfil their dowry demands.
Police said a woman in Palwal last evening lodged a case against her husband and in-laws accusing them of harassing her for dowry.
Deaths related to dowry are a common phenomenon in Uttar Pradesh and India.
An engineer allegedly killed his wife in Faribabad in June 2013 and informed the police about the incident. The accused, Nar Singh of Parvartiya colony, married Shiksha of Sarita Vihar, about five years ago.
A 22-year-old woman, just two years after she got married, died under mysterious circumstances at a Faridabad hospital in October 2015. The victim's father, Om Singh, lodged a complaint against his daughter's husband and other in-laws, all residents of Jasna village, alleging that her daughter was killed for dowry.
In yet another case of dowry death, a woman was allegedly killed by her in-laws for dowry in Faridabad in May 2015. The girl was married to Mukul in 2012 and soon after her husband and in-laws started torturing her for dowry.
Similarly, a 26-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her in-laws for want of dowry on July 6, 2015. According to the complaint lodged by the woman's brother Lalit Saxena his sister got married to Sanjay Shrivastav, a resident of Sector-2 in Ballabgarh Faridabad, on April 29, 2013.
