
Mumbai: Nitin Patole, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Bhandara-Gondia constituency near Nagpur on Friday resigned from the party and Los Sabha citing 14 issues related to agriculture, economy and unemployment as reason.
Patole, who had defeated senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Praful Patel to win the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, has been criticising Prime Minister Modi and the BJP government in Maharashtra and New Delhi since last few months.
In a direct attack on Modi, Patole had alleged that the Prime Minister did not like to be questioned.
While criticizing and posing hard hitting questions to the ruling party and Prime Minister Modi, Patole had also said that he will remain with in BJP and will not resign.
Friday however was a different story when he reached the Lok Sabha Secretariat and handed over his resignation to the Speaker.
He alleged that he had time and again raised certain issues with the prime minister, but they were ignored.
Soon after resigning from the BJP and Lok Sabha, Patole addressed a press conference and said he would join share stage with Rahul Gandhi in Ahmedabad on December 11.
“People are dying due to the BJP governments' policies”, he said in a direct reference to farmers' suicide.
Patole, who had recently joined senior party leader Yashwant Sinha in his agitation for farmers’ demands at Akola, also claimed that there is a lot of dissent among BJP leaders and there could be more resignations.
