Muslim Man Hacked to Death

New Delhi: The Communist Party of India (CPI) Saturday condemned the killing of a Muslim labourer in Rajasthan, alleging such crimes against minorities are a result of hate propaganda pursued by Hindutva groups in BJP-ruled states.

The killing of the labourer, who hailed from West Bengal, allegedly in the name of "love jihad" on Wednesday, has triggered a nation-wide furore.

The CPI alleged the "accusation of love jihad was only a pretext to kill" the Muslim man, according to PTI.

"These type of crimes against minorities are a result of continuous and poisonous hate propaganda by Hindutva groups in Rajasthan and other BJP-ruled states. This should be checked," CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy said in a statement.

Mohammed Afrazul (48) was hacked and burnt to death in Rajasthan's Rajsamand district.

In a video of the killing shared on social media, the accused, Shambhu Lal, is seen declaring he killed the man to save a woman from "love jihad" and warning that anyone challenging the majority community would "meet the same fate".

Shambhu Lal had allegedly brought the man to a secluded place on the pretext of providing him work.

As it could be seen in the video, he attacked the man from behind while continuously warning him against the practice of love jihad.

Rajasthan was recently in the news for lynching of Muslim farmers in the name of "cow smuggling".
