The Council of Architecture has released online the Admit Cards/Hall Tickets of candidates appearing for the April 2017 National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) on its official website today i.e. Tuesday March 28.

The Admit Card download link is now open. Candidates can visit website nata.nic.in, click on the link marked with "Download Admit Card for NATA 2017", log in by entering necessary details and download their admit cards.

The Council had earlier said the NATA Admit Cards will be released at 10:00 am on March 28. It however released them after a delay of few hours.

In another important notification released today, the Council of Architecture said the candidates appearing for the test in Dubai will need to pay extra fees. The council said the admit cards of such candidates will be released on April 7.

"This is for the information of all concerned candidates, who have opted Dubai as their First choice as City for appearing in National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA)-2017 and accordingly, have been allotted Centre of Examination in Dubaiare required to deposit an additional fee of INR 7000 each as stated under noting of Annexure-V of Information Brochure for NATA 2017", RK Oberoi, Registrar Council of Architecture said in the state issued today.

Earlier, thousands of students who are appearing for the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) to be organised by the Council of Architecture across country are confused as their Admit Card/Hall Tickets which were supposed to uploaded today i.e. Tuesday March 28 at 10:00 am are yet to be there on the NATA website.

The Admit Cards however were released after 12:00 pm today.

The Council of Architecture in a notice issued on March 24 had rescheduled the generation of Admit Card/Hall Ticket of the students appearing for the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) 2017 from March 26 to March 28 at 10:00 am citing technical reasons.

"This is for information of all concerned that due to some unavoidable circumstances the date of Publication of Downloadable Admit Card stands rescheduled from 10:00 am of March 26 to 10:00 am of March 28.", RK Oberoi, Registrar Council of Architecture said in the state issued on March 24.

The exam, conducted for a duration of three hours, is scheduled to be held on April 16. It will consist of the two following parts. While Part A of 90 minutes will comprise objective type questions based on Mathematics and General Aptitude. It will carry a total of 120 marks, Part B will be based on Drawing Test. It will carry a total of 80 marks.

As per the details of paper pattern available on NATA website, there will be 20 questions of 02 marks each on Maths and 40 questions of 02 marks on General Aptitude.

Drawing Test will contain 02 questions of 40 marks each.

As for the NATA Eligibility Criteria for candidates, the lower age limit is 17 years as on 31.07.2017 and candidates may come from the following backgrounds:

  • 10+2 or equivalent passed/appearing with Mathematics as one of the subjects of examination
  • 10+3 Diploma (any stream) passed/appearing recognized by Central/State Govts with Mathematics as one of the subjects of examination
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma passed/appearing, after 10 years of Schooling with Mathematics as compulsory subject of examination.
As per the Minimum Standards of Architectural Education Regulations, it is mandatory to qualify in an aptitude test in Architecture for admission to B.Arch. degree course. It is implied that a separate aptitude test in Architecture should be conducted and such test should not be combined with the tests for admissions to Engineering, Pharmacy, Medicine and other disciplines.

At present there are about 450 institutes in India which offer 5 year B.Arch. degree program including the IITs and NITs. The purpose of NATA is to measure the aptitude of an applicant in the specific field of study, that is, Architecture. The test assesses a student's drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity, Mathematics and critical thinking ability.

NATA measures the aptitude of the applicant for specific field of study, i.e. Architecture. The test measures mathematical skills, general aptitude, drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking ability that have been acquired over their school days. NATA is also aimed to ensure that eligibility criteria for admission to five year Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) degree course, as prescribed by CoA and duly approved by the Central Government, are strictly adhered to and followed all over the country in Architectural Institutions.
