Chandigarh: Former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, serving a 10-year jail term after being convicted in the teachers’ recruitment scam, has cracked Class 12 Higher Secondary Examination with first division.
82-year-old Chautala, a four-term Chief Minister of Haryana, appeared for the Class 12 exams conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) at the centre set up for prisoners at Tihar Jail in Delhi.
Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) President Chautala was on parole for the wedding of his grandson Dushyant Chautala, the Hisar MP, a month ago but he went back to jail for the examination as its centre was in Tihar.
His younger son and INLD Ellenabad MLA Abhay Chautala said his father had "decided to utilise his jail term more meaningfully".
“He secured first division in the exam,” he said.
Chautala is now planning to pursue an undergraduate course.
