Riyadh: More than 200,000 people were either killed or wounded in terror attacks over the past five years in Islamic countries, according to a statement of the Islamic Counter Terrorism Military Coalition (IMCTC), carried on its official Twitter account.
The attacks have caused $348 billion worth of damage to the economy of these countries, the statement noted.
Nearly 72 percent of those killed and wounded belonged to at least four Islamic countries, Iraq, Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan.
Defense Ministers of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition met for the first time on Sunday in Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh.
The meeting was held under the theme of “Allied Against Terrorism.”
The 40-member bloc was launched by Saudi Arabia in late 2015 to fight terrorism.
A declaration issued by an Arab-U.S.-Islamic summit in Riyadh this May said the alliance's member states were ready to deploy 34,000 troops with a view to supporting operations against terrorist groups in Iraq.
