Rahul Gandhi's comments were posted in response to reports that the ruling party in the state and New Delhi had offered Rs 1 crore to Narendra Patel, a Patidar leader from North Gujarat, to join the BJP.
Narendra's Patel's allegation came on the day when Varun Patel and Reshma Patel - two close aides of Hardik Patel joined the BJP, weeks before the state election.
After joining the BJP Varun Patel said the Patidar community will never allow the Congress party to take over the reins of Gujarat.
"The BJP government (in the state) held talks with us in the past to resolve various issues. However, the Congress never held such talks, as they were not committed. We have decided to join BJP because we do not want to run the agitation by becoming Congress agents," said Varun Patel.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Narendra Patel produced Rs 10 lakh before the media, which he claimed was paid to him by the BJP.
Patel, a senior member of the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti or PAAS in North Gujarat, the group led by Hardik Patel, said that the money was offered to him through Varun Patel.
"Varun Patel made a Rs. 1 crore-deal with the BJP for me. He gave 10 lakh rupees in advance. They are going to give me Rs. 90 lakh rupees tomorrow but even if they give me the entire Reserve Bank (of India) they will not be able to buy me," Narendra Patel said.
Reacting to the allegations leveled by Patel, the BJP called it a conspiracy by the Congress to garner Patel community’s support in the forthcoming elections.
Meanwhile, OBC leader Alpesh Thakor - another important face in the poll bound state joined the Congress and has also announced the election on the party ticket. Lawyer-turned-Dalit leader Jignesh Mewani and Hardik Patel have already declared that they will do whatecer is in their hands to defeat the BJP.
