Juhu Building Fire

Mumbai:
Six people died and 11 were injured after a cylinder blast gutted the ground floor of an under-construction building in Juhu on Wednesday night. The injured were rushed to Cooper hospital, and are in a critical condition.

The major fire destroyed the ground floor of 13-storey Prarthana Building near Kaifi Azmi Park in Juhu, at about 10.10 pm on Wednesday, according to PTI.

The building is under-construction, and residents were labourers housed in 15 makeshift houses on the ground floor. The fire brigade pressed three fire engines and two water tankers to the spot, and managed to bring the fire under control within an hour.

P Rahangdale, chief fire officer of the Mumbai fire brigade, said, “Ten of the 17 people rushed to Cooper hospital were taken before the fire brigade arrived. Bodies of the six people who died in this unfortunate incident were so charred, that even their sex cannot be indebted yet.”

Rahangdale said the fire was brought under control immediately, but damaged LPG cylinders and stoves found at the site intensified the fire at an initial stage. Deaths occured instantly, before arrival of the fire brigade, he said.

Sources from Cooper hospital said, “There were six others brought to the hospital, due to injuries from this fire. They were treated and discharged in some time.”
