Daya Gaikwad Rape Case

Mumbai:
Vartak Nagar Police booked Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator from Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) Daya Gaikwad for rape, assault, and criminal intimidation after a woman filed a complaint against him with the Thane police.

A 27-year-old woman alleged that Daya raped her on several occasions between June and August. The police also booked Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) women's wing chief of Kalyan Ashwini Dhumal and her husband Manoj.

"Gaikwad befriended the complainant on a social networking site. After promising marriage, he took her to lodges in Titwala and a resort in Badlapur and raped her," the complaint stated.

When the victim threatened to approach the police against Gaikwad, he hatched a conspiracy and roped in Ashwini Dhumal and her husband Manoj Dhumal

"They told me to demand Rs 10 lakh and a flat from Gaikwad and recorded the conversation," she said.

Gaikwad then threatened the victim that he would use the audio recording as a proof that the victim was threatening him and trying to extort money from him, police said.

A case under Sections 376, 323, 504, 506, 34 of the IPC was registered against Daya.
