UP Haj Committee

Lucknow:
The opposition parties on Friday accused the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh of playing "politics of color" after the boundary wall of the state Haj Committee office was found itself painted in saffron color.

“Yogi government is playing politics of colours to hide its failures. Saffron is the colour of faith for us, but can it give food to the hungry? Or medicine to the ill?" Samajwadi Party MLC and Spokesperson Sunil Singh Sajan asked.

"People have not elected this government to change the colours of the buildings. It appears that the government is working on a specific agenda against Muslims. First madaris, then triple talaq and now the office of the Hajj Committee", Sufian Nizami, a cleric, said.

Saffron is said to be favorite color of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Yogi, who himself is always seen draped in saffron color, had recently ordered to paint the state secretariat in saffron color.

The UP State Hajj Committee office reportedly got the new paint overnight as the work was carried out at midnight.

Interestingly, the overall look of the newly painted boundary wall gives a glimpse of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) flag as the main gate of the office was already painted in green.

As a practice, the Haj committee building always got painted in white. Singh maintained that the other part of the building will continue to retain its white color.

Mohsin Raza, the only Muslim minister in the state, however did not find any fault. "Saffron is a vibrant color and there is absolutely no problem if the State Haj Committee is painted in such a color. In fact it has made the building look more beautiful", he said.
