New Delhi: Delhi Police cracked the sensational murder case of 31-year-old Ankit Kumar, a teacher at a local private tuition classes, arresting Akash Kashyap - the prime accused in the case.
While announcing the arrest of Akash, Delhi police refuted all media reports that earlier said Ankit Kumar was murdered over his alleged relationship with a Muslim student.
Delhi police however said Akash, the arrested accused, murdered Ankit Kumra because he was unhappy with the teacher who was harassing his girlfriend.
“With the arrest of a 21 year old, final year BTech student, Aakash Kashyap, who belongs to Bagpat in UP, @DelhiPolice Distt North West has solved the murder case of a teacher Ankit Kumar, in Jahangirpuri, on Oct 1. Aakash killed Ankit for harassing his girlfriend & pursuing her", Delhi police said in one of the series of messages posted on Twitter.
The Delhi Police further said that Akash Kashyap hatched the plan to murder Ankit after he did not give his pursuit for the accused’s girlfriend.
“The girl studied at Ankit Kumar’s coaching centre & Ankit had fallen in love with her two years ago. When Ankit didn’t abandon pursuit & blackmailed the girl, Aakash Kashyap, the accused, hatched the plot to get rid of him,” said the tweet by the Delhi Police.
Aakash reportedly bought a pistol when he visited Fazalpur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat March this year. The police have also recovered the pistol, mask, bag and a cap used to carry out Ankit’s murder.
Ankit Kumar was shot dead on October 1 in Delhi. Soon after the incident, multiple media houses reported that the murder was a case of honour killing. The basis of the reports was the accusation by the victim’s family that Ankit was killed by the family of the Muslim girl he was in a relationship with.
Some media reports gave the murder a communal colour. The irresponsible reporting by the media had fuelled tension in the area. All these reports hoowever proved wrong after the arrest of Akash Kashyap on Thursday.
“I have saved the lives of many girls by killing him", Akash told the investigating officers.
