Ranchi: The newly elected Jharkhand Assembly will have a total of 04 Muslim MLAs, according to the final result announced by the State Election Commission Monday.
Muslim candidates of various parties won the 2019 Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha elections in 04 assembly constituties, but lost the electoral battle in 01 because of the division of votes between the Muslim candidates - mainly JMM and AJSU Party.
Among the 04 Muslim MLAs who won the Jharkhand assembly elections are 02 sittings MLAs - Irfan Ansari and Alamgir Alam. Both of them contested the elections on Congress party tickets.
While Irfan Ansari retained the Jamtara assembly seat defeating Birendra Mandal of BJP, Alamgir Alam won from Pakur. He defeated Veni Prasad Gupta of BJP to retain the Pakur seat.
The other 02 Muslims who won the Jharkhand 2019 elections are Dr Sarfaraz Ahmad and Haji Hussain Ansari - both belonging to Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
The contest in Rajmahal assembly seat proved suicidal for the Muslim candidates. Here, Ketabuddin Sekh of JMM and Md Tajuddin of AJSU Party, together got more votes than Anant Kumar Ojha of BJP and paved the way for his victory.
According to the final result of Jharkhand elections 2019, Ojha polled a total of 88, 904 votes, Ketabuddin Sekh got 24, 619 votes and Md Tajuddin of AJSU Party bagged 76, 532 votes in Rajmahal assembly seat.
The result of the Rajmahal seat once again shows how the BJP candidates win in Muslim dominated seats because of the division of votes.
Overall, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has emerged as the single largest party winning 30 seats followed by BJP 25 seats, Congress 16 seats, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (P) 03 seats, AJSU Party 02 seats, NCP, RJD and CPI (M) wining 01 seat each.
The remaining 02 seats are won by Independent candidates. One of these two seats are Jamshedpur East where a BJP rebel candidate defeated Chief Minister Raghubar Das.
