Javeed Ahmad IPS WhatsApp Message

Lucknow: A message purportedly posted by former Uttar Pradesh top cop Javeed Ahmed (IPS) on a WhatsApp group run by IPS Officers is viral and widely shared on different social media platforms.

"Allah ki marzi. Bura to lagta hai par M hona gunah hai", the message posted in the group soon after the selection of Rishi Kumar Shukla (IPS) as CBI Chief was announced on Saturday.

Javeed Ahmed, who is currently serving as DG National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science, was in the race for the CBI top post. The letter 'M' in the message is being interpreted as "Muslim".

The timeline in the screenshot of the WhatsApp message showed the message was posted by Javeed Ahmed IPS at around 07:02 pm. He however denied posting the said message in the group.

The message was later deleted from the group. But not before a screenshot was taken by somebody. The screenshot was soon everywhere on different social media platforms.

Arvind Kumar Jain, former DGP who is also in the group, said he did not read the message but when he logged in he saw a notification saying a message was deleted by Javeed Ahmad.

1984 batch IPS officer Javeed Ahmed was shunted as Director General of Police (DGP) Uttar Pradesh after BJP came to power in the state and Yogi Adityanath became chief minister in 2017.

Interestingly, Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, who is part of the selection committee besides Prime Minister Modi and Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, in his dissenting note said Javeed Ahmed was more experienced as compared to others.

"Based on the criteria laid down by DSPE Act and the Supreme Court, I am of the opinion that the following officers from the list of candidates submitted to the committee meet the requirements of experience in investigating anti-corruption cases, in order of overall merit -- S Javeed Ahmad (1984 UP total overall experience 303 months), Rajiv Rai Bahtnaga (1983 UP total overall experience 170 months) and Sudeep Lakhtakia (1984 TL total overall experience 155 months)", Kharge wrote.

Rishi Kumar Shukla of Madhya Pradesh cadre of 1983 batch with an overall experience of 117 months however was selected as CBI chief with a 2:1 ratio based on seniority.

Shukla was appointed as DGP of Madhya Pradesh police in 2016. But, after the Congress came to power, new Chief Minister Kamal Nath on January 29, removed him from the post and appointed him as chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Police Housing Board.
