Chennai: Khatija, the daughter of renowned music composer AR Rahman, on Thursday hit back at the extremists who criticised her father and accused him of forcing her to wear Niqab - the full veil that covers body from head to toe.
""The veil has been my choice with complete acceptance and honour. I'm a sane mature adult who knows to make my choices in life," Khatija said refuting the extremists who accused AR Rahman of forcing the Islamic dress code on his daughter.
Khatija also said that everybody has the right to dress according to their choice and that she has been doing the same. Khatija has also asked that people should not make a judgement without understanding the situation.
AR Rahman was targeted by the extremists on social media after Khatija shared with him the stage at an event organised to celebrate 10 years of Slumdog Millionaire. The music for the film fetched the composer two Academy awards.
Khatija Rahman also delivered an emotional speech which received a lot of applause. But, soon extremists on the social media started criticising AR Rahman for Khatija's Islamic dress code and called the music composer, a hypocrite for 'forcing' his daughter to wear a niqab.
Interestingly, AR Rahman too hit back at the extremists by sharing a photo of his daughters Khatija, Raheema and wife Sairaa with Nita Ambani. In the photo while Khatija is still wearing the full veil, Raheema and Sairaa are without Hijab. And, to make the situation worse for the troll army, AR Rahman captioned the photo #freedomtochoose.
