Conference in Albania on Role of Woman in Modern Society from Islamic Perspective

The conference will gather scholars, imams, researchers, students, among others from different countries and cultures of the world

Tirana: The Second International Conference on Islamic Studies will kick off Thursday in Tirana, capital of Albania, under the theme of “The Role of Woman in Modern Society from the Islamic Perspective”.

The two-day conference is being organized by the Muslim Community of Albania, Department of Islamic Sciences at University College Bedër and World Council of Muslim Communities.

The conference will gather scholars, imams, researchers, students, among others from different countries and cultures of the world. They will speak about the role of women in educating society; the rights of women in modern society; gender equality issues; discrimination against women; divorce and domestic violence; and women's education.

The participants will also discuss the forms of resistance to patriarchy, the Muslim women and challenges in their integration, women in the Qur'an and Prophetic Tradition, the image of women in the Albanian media, and women's political participation and leadership.

Opening speeches are set to be delivered by Chairman of the Muslim Community of Albania Sheikh Skënder Bruçaj, Deputy Speaker of the Albanian Parliament Dr. Vasilika Hysi, Secretary General of the World Council of Muslim Communities Dr. Mohammed Al-Bashari, and Rector of Bedër University Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Gjana.

The conference will come to conclusion with the holding of a training session for the students of the Department of Islamic Sciences at University College Bedër in Albania.

The Abu Dhabi-based World Council of Muslim Communities is an international organization aims to enable Muslim communities across world to integrate into their societies and achieve full citizenship.

It also aims to promote cultural pluralism and respect for the cultural and intellectual specificities of the Muslim communities in the world, as well as promoting moderation, dialogue, tolerance, and the civil and political rights of Muslim communities as an inherent human right in accordance with international and national conventions.
