New Delhi: The meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Selection Committee to decide on the next CBI chief remained inconclusive and another meeting of the panel will be held soon, officials said Thursday.
They said no decision on the CBI director's post was taken at the meeting.
"A list of eligible officers along with their dossiers was shared with the panel members. But no decision has been taken so far," an official said requesting anonymity.
The meeting, which was held at the prime minister's official residence, was attended by other members of the committee including Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi and leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.
"There was discussion on the names. There was no mention of their career details including relevant experience. We (referring to CJI Gogoi) have asked them to provide all the necessary details. The next meeting will be convened may be by next week," Kharge said talking to reporters after today's meeting.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has been working under interim director M Nageswara Rao after Alok Verma was removed as its chief on charges of corruption and dereliction of duty by the high-powered committee headed by Prime Minister Modi. Rao’s appointment has also been challenged in the top court.
Meanwhile, Justice Sikri on Thursday recused himself from hearing a petition challenging Nageswara Rao as interim director of CBI. Justice Sikri was part of the high powered panel which had removed CBI Director Alok Verma.
