27 Muslims including 06 from UP in Lok Sabha 2019

The newly elected Lok Sabha will have a total of 27 Muslim Parliamentarians - up by 04 from their tally of 2014

Lok Sabha Election Result 2019: The newly elected Lok Sabha will have a total of 27 Muslim Parliamentarians - up by 04 from their tally of 2014.

Among the 27 Muslim MPs who have won the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, 06 each are from Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Muslims winning in Uttar Pradesh is an important outcome of 2019 Lok Sabha elections as in 2014 not a single Muslim was elected from Uttar Pradesh where they have significant population in more than two dozen seats.

Also significant is the victory of Imtiyaz Jaleel from Aurangabad in Maharashtra. This is the first time in 15 years history of Maharashtra and 40 years history of Aurangabad that a Muslim has been elected from this Parliamentary constituency.

Last time a Muslim was elected from Maharashtra was when former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Abdur Rahman Antulay had won from Raigadh Lok Sabha seat in 2004.

Imtiyaz Jaleel, sitting MLA of Aurangabad Central Assembly seat, defeated Chandrakant Kahaire of Shiv Sena - sitting MP from the city who was seeking re-election for 5th consecutive term. The last time a Muslim had won from Aurangabad was in 1980 when Saleem Qazi had won the election as Congress candidate from here.

The Congress had later fielded Dr Rafeeque Zakaria, renowned scholar and former minister in Maharashtra government, from Aurangabad. He however had lost the polls.

Imtiyaz Jaleel's victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections has also increased the tally of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in the Indian Parliament by 01. This is the first time when AIMIM will have 02 MPs - the other member being AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi who has won the 2019 General Elections from Hyderabad for the 5th time.

Imtiyaz Jaleel is also the only Vanchit Aghadi candidate who has won the election. The aghadi, formed by Dalit leader Prakash Ambedkar and Asaduddin Owaisi, had fieled candidates in all 48 seats of Maharashtra.

Others in the list of Muslims who have won the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections are Kunwar Danish Ali of BSP, Farooque Abdullah, National Conference leader and former Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Badruddin Ajmal Qasmi of AIUDF, LJP leader and Chiarman Haj Committee Choudhary Mehboob Ali Qaiser, Dr Mohammed Javed of Congress, Shafeequr Rahman Burq and Azam Khan of Samajwadi Party (SP), Advocate AM Arif and ET Mohammed Basheer from Kerala, Abu Hashim Khan, Bu Tahir Khan, Sajeda Ahmed, Khaleelur Rahman, Nusrat Jahan and Aafreen Ali - all of Trinamool Congress of West Bengal.

Mohammed Afzal of NCP has won from Lawkshdeep and Mohammed Sadiq of Congrss has won from Faridkot, Punjab.

Statewise 06 Muslims each have won from Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, 03 each have won from Kerala and Jammu & Kashmir, 02 each from Bihar and Assam, and 01 each from Telangana, Maharashtra, Lawkhsdeep, Punjab and Tamil Nadu.

The BJP has given party ticket to 04 Muslims. None of them could win the elections. Chiarman Haj Committee Choudhary Mehboob Ali Qaiser who has won the 2019 election is Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) of Ram Vilas Paswan who is the an ally of BJP.

Among the prominent Muslim losers are Tariq Anwar, Naseemuddin Siddiqui, Haji Yaqoob Quraishi, Tabassum Bano and Mausam Noor Bano.

Haji Yaqoob polled 581,455 in Meerut but he lost the election to Rajendra Agarwal of BJP who got 586,184 votes. In Meerut, Congress candidate got 34,479 votes.

Similarly, Tabassum Bano who had won the Kairana by-election lost the 2019 polls despite polling 474,801 votes.

Overall the BJP has won a total of 302 seats on its own and 348 of the total 542 seats with its allies. Congress has won just 52 seats - a slight increase in its 2014 tally of 44.
