Deoband (Uttar Pradesh): A delegation formed by district administration faced unprecedented situation Thursday when they reached Deoband Eid-gah ground to persaude women protesting against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) to end their stir.
Eyewitnesses said a deleagtion comprising former MLA Mavia Ali and municipal corporation chairman Jamaluddin Ansari besides others reached Deoband Eid-gah ground Thursday evening to persuade the women to end their protest underway since January 27, 2020.
The delegation was in talks with Muttaheda Khawatin Committee leaders including Amena Rushi, Iram Usmani and Salma Ahsan. Suddenly, a large group of protesting women approached, threw bangles at them and shouted slogans to go back.
"It was as if raining bangles from all across", a protester said.

The delegation reached the Deoband anti-CAA/NRC protest site following a peace committe meeting held at district headquarters Thursday morning. The meeting was attended by Darul Uloom Deoband rector Abul Qasim Nomani.
A video of Deoband rector also went viral on social media wherein the cleric is seen appealing the women protseters to end their stir.
"Though we are not completely satisfied with the government clarification issued in the Lok Sabha. However, it can be said that the government has softened its stand. Hence the ongoing protest can be suspended for the time being", the cleric is seen saying in the video.
Friday evening also saw a large number of the students of Darul Uloom Deoband protesting against the Rector and other who attended the meeting called by the district officials and issued appeal to end the protests.
Following the outrage and angry reaction by women protesters and its own students, Deoband Friday issued a statement signed by its rector Abul Qasim Nomani.
"Darul Uloom Deoband reiterates that it is not satisfied with the government's clarification. CAA and NRC are serious matters and cannot be taken lightly", Darul Uloom Deoband said in the statement.
"Peaceful protest against CAA/NRC should be continued till CAA is repealed and the government assures us that NRC will never be implemented", it added.
Meanwhile, reacting on the entire incident, Shabana Qureshi, a protester at Shaheen Bagh in Delhi said, "Ye mazhab ki ladai nahi hai jo hum unki baat maan lein. Ye ladai Samvidhan ko bachane ki hai. Jab tak CAA NRC wapas nahi hota, hamari ladai jari rahegi (We cannot accept their call as this is not the fight for any religeous cause. This is the fight to save the Constitution. And, till the CAA/NRC are withdrawn, our fight will continue)".
