Malegaon: Mufti Mohammad Ismail, the AIMIM MLA representing Malegaon Central Assmebly Constituency, Monday urged the people to withdraw all their deposits from their bank accounts in order to force Modi government to revoke Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and refrain from moving ahead on National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR).
"We can adopt various ways to protest against the CAA-NRC-NPR. One way is to withdraw all the money in your bank accounts and keep only the minimum balance", Mufti Ismail said while addressing the all-women protest rally called to protest against CAA-NRC-NPR Monday.
"To protest against the CAA and proposed legislations, we can also stop filling fuel from petrol pumps on any one day every week", he said.
The rally led by Shan e Hind, Janata Dal (S) Corporator and daughter of famous socialist leader and former Maharashtra minister Nehal Ahmed was also scheduled to be addressed by Ladeeda Farzana and Aysha Renna - the face of Delhi Police Crackdown on the students of Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi on December 15, 2019.
Yusuf Ilyas- close aide of MLA Mufti Ismail, had confirmed to ummid.com Sunday their participation. However, Shan e Hind said the police permission for the rally was given on the condition that the two Jamia students will not be part of it.
While addressing the rally, Mufti Ismail also asked the women to prepare for January 26 - the 70th Republic Day.
“On the 70th anniversary of the Republic of India, we will unfurl the National Flag on 70 different locations in Malegaon and sing the National Anthem. We will also hold protests to urge people to protect the Constitution", he said.
"To start with, no one should buy petrol on Republic Day and everyone should empty their bank accounts. Convey this message to everyone in your family,” he announced.
While addressing the rally, Shan e Hind also gave a call to emulate Mahatma Gandhi’s "Civil Disobedience" and "Non-cooperation Movement".
“The government runs on money for which we give our sweat and blood. We will make as many sacrifices as necessary to save our Constitution and our country,” she said.
The protest rally attended by tens of thousands of women, with many holding their children in their hands, started at 02:30 pm from Jamiatus Salehat and ended at Shahidon Ki Yadgaar at around 05:15 pm.
The entire Qedwai Road in front of the Shahidon Ki Yadgaar, and till Ambedkar Putla on the right and towards Malegaon New Bus Stand on the left a sea of protesters were seen holding placards and listening to the speakers in total peace and silence.
This is the second time in recent past when women hit streets to protest against the divisive policies of Modi government. On February 15, 2018, more than 100,000 females had protested against the Triple Talaq Bill which later became a law.
