India Fights Coronavirus: All the baazars, including the busiest Tamba Kanta are shut and most of the poweloom units are in silent mode as the Muslim dominated Malegaon Sunday came to standstill witnessing near total lockdown to comply with Janata Curfew being observed to contain the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Malegaon Sunday woke up to a regular morning with leading chowks and roadside eateries offering nashta and chai. However, police personnel in a swift decision patrolled all across the city and requested the eateris to pack up and humbly requested people on the roads to stay at home.
Till 01:00 pm when this reporter took a round of the city, all the major roads including Old Agra Road, Mohammad Ali Road, Qedwai Road, Satana Road, Malegaon Camp Road, Kusumba Road, Maulana Azad Road, Ram Setu Pul, Ambedkar Pul, Mosam Pool, Sabzi Market including Mushawerat Chowk, Fateh Maidan, Peeri Chowk, Ekatmata Chowk, Sangmeshwer Chowk, Sakhawat Hotel Chowk, Sardar Chowk, Khyabane Neshat Chowk, Chandanpuri Gate, Taj Hotel Jaffar Nagar all wore a deserted look.
However at some places in the inner parts of the city, people were seen chatting sitting outside.
Peopl rushed to the mosques when the Muazzin gave the call to Zuhur prayers. It was as if a Ramadan afternoon as most of the mosques in the city were full of worshippers.
At Jama Masjid Ahle Hadees Motipura, only half of the inner hall of the mosque is occupied by worshippers in normal days, except on Fridays. However the worshippers Sunday offered the prayers in the outer courtyard of the mosque - a scene normally seen only during the month of Ramadan.
Complying with the appeals by Prime Minister Modi to observe Janata Curfew, the powerlooms units on their own decided to remain shutdown.
