Chennai: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in Madras High Court seeking postponement of Tamil Nadu Class 10 and 12 Board Exams 2020 till the state reports zero Covid cases.
The PIL filed by Advocate S Stalinraja said holding the exams at a time when Tamil Nadu is reporting new Coronavirus patients every day will put students at risk.
The PIL is filed a day after Tamil Nadu government announced that pending exams of Class 10 and 12 will be held between June 1 to 4, 2020.
Citing a number of reports that said India could see covid peak in June, Stalinraja in his petition demanded the postponement of the TN Board Exams 2020.
In his petition, Stalinraja further said that students staying in the areas declared as cotonement zones will not be able to appear if the exams are conducted in June.
He also said that if the exams are conducted as per the revised time table it will make students living in villages to reach exam centres as public or private transportation is still not operating because of lockdown and restrictions.
The PIL is likely to be taken up for a hearing by a division bench headed by Justice Vineet Kothari today i.e. Thursday May 14.
