New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has derecognized the PhD awarded by the Om Parkash Jogender Singh University, popularly known as OPJS University, located in Churu district of Rajasthan till further notice.
The UGC in a notification dated December 27, 2023 has also barred the OPJS University from enrolling scholars under its PhD Programme.
The decision to derecognize the OPJS University PhD was taken following the constitution of a standing committee by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The aim of the UGC committee was to monitor if the universities are following the UGC norms and regulations while awarding the PhDs.
In the first phase, as many as 14 universities were asked to furnish data about the PhD degrees awarded during the year 2018.
“It has been observed that despite repeated requests and a show cause notice, OPJS University (Private University), Rawatsar Kunjla, Near Sankhu Fort,Rajgarh (Sadulpur), Jhunjuno Road, Churu, Rajasthan -331303 did neither provide the required information nor attended the meeting”, the UGC said in the public notice on Dec 27.
“This non-adherence by the university has been viewed by the UGC very seriously. Accordingly, it has been decided to debar the university from enrolling scholars under its Ph.D. Programmes with immediate effect till the UGC clearance”, the notice said.
The UGC at the same time has advised parents and students not to enroll them in any of the PhD Programme offered by the OPJS University, Churu.
“Prospective students and their parents are advised not to take admission in Ph.D. Programme offered by the OPJS University from now onwards", the UGC said.
“In the absence of the UGC approval, the PhD awarded by the university will not be treated recognized / valid for the purpose of higher education and employment”, the UGC said.
OPJS University Rajasthan was awarded Education Excellence Award in 2021. Spread over 32 acres of land, the university was established on August 02, 2013.
