New York: In a worrying trend of Indian students’ death in the United States, Sameer Kamath, 23, was found dead on Purdue University Campus on Monday February 05, 2024.
Kamath was pursuing a doctoral degree at Purdue University. His body was found at about 05:00 pm Monday at Crow’s Grove Nature Preserve in Williamsport.
Indiana-based Journal & Courier citing Warren County Coroner Justin Brummett reported that Kamath was a student in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the university.
He graduated from the department in August 2023 with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
Kamath’s death is second in less than two weeks on Purdue University Campus. Last week, Neel Acharya, was found dead on the University campus, hours after his mother had reported him missing.
As many as five Indian students have been mysteriously found dead in the United States since start of this year.
Shreyas Reddy Beniger, a 19-year-old student, was found dead last week, but authorities had ruled out any foul play.
Vivek Saini, a 25-year-old student from Haryana, was hammered to death by a homeless drug-addict in Georgia's Lithonia on January 16. Incidentally, Vivek had given shelter to the homeless and fed him for days.
Akul Dhawan, another Indian student, was found dead outside the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in January.
Sameer Kamath’s death came at a time when another Indian origin student, Syed Mazahir Ali, was attacked in Chicago by four yet to be identified persons.
In a video shared by his family, Syed Mazahir Ali said he was on way back to his apartment when he was attacked, robbed and badly injured by the four assailants.
Syed Mazahir Ali, who is pursuing Masters in IT from Indiana Wesleyan University, is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
