Euro Cup 2024 Semi Final: Spain on Tuesday July 09, 2024 defeated France 2-1 in Euro Cup 2024 Semi Final Match, courtesy Lamine Yamal’s history making goal in Munich.

17-year-old Yamal who scored the winning goal for Spain is the youngest ever goa scorer of the tournament.

Spain was trailing after Randal Kolo Muani headed in a Kylian Mbappe cross in the 9th minute. La Roja however turned the match around in a four-minute period, scoring twice against France that had only conceded once in five previous games in this tournament.

‘A superstar is born’

Yamal, who turns 17 a day before Sunday's final against either the Netherlands or England in Berlin, equalised with a superb strike from outside the box, curling a long-range effort into the top corner and past the fingertips of an airborne Mike Maignan.

"A superstar is born”, former England striker Gary Lineker said on BBC One. "It was the moment of the match, possibly the moment of the tournament."

While Spain have been the most attacking side at the tournament to date, here they showed they have the defence to match as they stayed on course for a fourth European Championship title.

France, for their part, came up short in attack against a side that will take some stopping when they face either England or the Netherlands in Sunday's final.

Spain are deserved finalists having been the best side at these Euros, winning all six of their games and scoring a tournament-high 13 goals.

Their shining lights have undoubtedly been their younger players, with Yamal and 21-year-old winger Nico Williams grabbing the headlines at various points.

'We didn't do enough'

France captain Kylian Mbappe said his side "didn't do enough" in Tuesday's 2-1 semi-final loss to Spain and admitted he was disappointed after underperforming at Euro 2024.

"We didn't do enough to get to the final," Mbappe told reporters.

"They (Spain) played better than us, they deserved to go to the final and we are going home."

Mbappe set up Randal Kolo Muani's ninth-minute opener, but Spain hit back to take the lead with two strikes in four minutes midway through the first half, according to news agency AFP.
