An award winning Palestinian-American nurse has been fired by New York University Langone Medical Centre in the United States (US) for highlighting the Israeli war crimes at an award ceremony

New York: An award winning Palestinian-American nurse has been fired by New York University Langone Medical Centre in the United States (US) for highlighting the Israeli war crimes at an award ceremony.
Hesen Jabr, a labor and delivery nurse, was awarded for providing excellent care to patients suffering perinatal loss.
In her speech at the award acceptance event, Hesen Jabr referring to the ongoing Israeli war against the Palestinians in Gaza and West Bank called the IoF military actions ‘genocide’.
“It pains me to see the women from my country going through unimaginable losses themselves during the current genocide in Gaza”, Hesen Jabr said in her award acceptance speech.
“Even though I can’t hold their hands and comfort them as they grieve their unborn children and the children they have lost during this genocide, I hope to keep making them proud as I keep representing them here at NYU,” she added.
The award ceremony was held on May 07, 2024. On May 22, 2024 when Hesen Jabr arrived for work the President and Vice President of Nursing at NYU Langone accused her of "putting others at risk" and "ruining the ceremony" and "offending people", Jabr said in an Instagram post.
“…… (it was all) because a small part of my speech was a tribute towards the grieving mothers in my country”, she wrote.
After working almost the entire shift that day she was given the termination letter and escorted out of the unit by a plain clothes police officer.
Jabr said the NYU had also deleted a group photo of her with other award recipients from Instagram.
“To add insult to injury, NYU posted the first photo in a post on their Instagram page. Later that day, the post was deleted and then re-uploaded without this photo”, Jabr wrote on Instagram sharing the original photo.
More than 36,000 civilians have been killed by the Israeli Occupation Forces since Oct 07, 2023 according to the Palestine Health Ministry.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in response to a plea by South Africa accusing Israel of committing genocide had asked the immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
The Israeli Occupation Forces however have continued their military offensive against the Palestinians.
